Ram / Stellantis – Ram 1500 REV / Ramcharger
Ram officially cancelled the battery-electric version of the 1500 REV, citing falling demand for full-size BEVs in North America.
Instead, they've pivoted to a range-extended electric version: the Ramcharger (now renamed 1500 REV) — that uses a battery + gas engine generator to extend range. Production is projected around 2026.
Atlis / Nxu (formerly Atlis Motor Vehicles)
Atlis has largely stepped back from actually building an EV truck for now. The company rebranded to Nxu, and is focusing more on battery / charging tech, energy storage, and infrastructure rather than putting a full-truck product on the road immediately.
Cancelled, failed, or pretty dead
Canoo
Included in many lists of “EV truck startups that failed or folded.” Their promises faded, their product pipeline has stalled.
Bollinger
Another startup that has had trouble actually launching its big trucks; many analysts treat them as a cautionary tale.
Nikola Badger
The Badger pickup was promised, even with hydrogen fuel cell variants, but as of recent reports, it’s not coming. The project has been shelved.
Lordstown Endurance
Endurance was announced, orders were taken, but production has been problematic. It’s mostly idled. Many see it as having failed to deliver at scale.
Questionable / unproven
Alpha Wolf, Scout Terra, TELO, Slate
These are newer or smaller contenders. They have ambitious specs, but not much in terms of confirmed production or delivery yet. Some are still in concept, some in pre-production or seeking funding.
Tesla Cybertruck, Ford Lightning, Chevy/GMC EV Trucks
These are more established and have (or are getting) real production models. While they also face challenges, they are more “alive” than many of the startups. (The Cybertruck is especially watched.) — I mention them to contrast how many of the startup trucks are having much harder time.
Implications & Verdict
Many projects have failed, been delayed indefinitely, or pivoted away from full BEV trucks.
Key challenges: cost, battery weight & size for trucks, towing/range performance, infrastructure (charging especially for large loads or rural use).
Because of those, some companies are leaning toward hybrids / range-extended systems rather than pure BEVs.
The consumer demand for full-size electric trucks isn’t as strong yet, especially in key markets. Ram’s cancellation is a major signal.
