The Lexus RX Hybrid is one of the easier luxury SUVs to recommend if reliability, comfort and fuel economy matter more to you than outright performance. But there are a few things I’d consider before buying one, particularly long-term running costs, wheel and tire expenses, and whether the hybrid actually suits your driving.

Reliability: Lexus has a strong reputation for reliability, but it's prudent to review owner reports and reliability ratings for the 2025 model.

From a mechanic’s perspective, the 2025 Lexus RX Hybrid is a strong buy for drivers who prioritize reliability, comfort, and fuel economy over sporty performance. It isn’t the cheapest luxury SUV to own, but if you plan to keep it long-term, the RX remains one of the safer choices in its class.

One thing I’d add from a mechanic’s point of view is that it helps to separate common model-related concerns from occasional individual faults.

On the RX 350h, I’d pay particular attention to the 12V battery and any unexplained warning messages, brake feel or unusual brake noise, and uneven or premature tire wear — especially with the larger 21-inch wheels. None of these automatically makes the RX a bad buy, but they’re worth checking carefully before purchase.

Then there are the occasional faults that may affect an individual vehicle rather than the model as a whole: sensor or camera warnings, infotainment glitches, rattles, or intermittent electronic messages. In many cases, software updates, calibration, a healthy 12V battery, or a relatively straightforward repair can solve the problem.

My advice with a used RX would be simple: don’t just scan for fault codes. Check the service history, tire wear, brake condition, 12V battery health, and make sure every driver-assistance and electronic feature works properly during a longer test drive.

The RX 350h is generally a solid platform, but a good pre-purchase inspection can separate a genuinely good example from one that may become unnecessarily expensive.
