The US pickup market is shifting fast, and Rivian is right in the middle of it. Ford Motor Company may have dominated trucks for decades, but the EV transition is exposing some cracks. Demand for the F-150 Lightning isn’t as strong as expected, with reports of slowing sales and canceled orders. Rivian is taking full advantage of this момент, actively targeting frustrated Ford buyers and pulling them toward the R1T. With strong performance, advanced tech, and a much more modern software experience, Rivian is starting to look like a serious threat. In a country where pickups define identity, this battle could decide who leads the entire EV market in the next decade.

I don’t think the main question right now is whether Rivian is better, but that they’re approaching the same market from completely different angles. Ford tried to translate the traditional F-150 experience into an electric version. Rivian, on the other hand, feels like it was designed as a tech product first, just in a pickup form.

You can already see this in the feedback. The Lightning often feels like a compromise, especially when it comes to range and pricing. Rivian seems to win more on overall experience and software.

That said, writing Ford off would be a mistake. Their manufacturing scale and infrastructure are on a completely different level. If they manage to fix pricing and improve the software side, they can easily bounce back.

The bigger question is how fast pickup buyers are willing to change their mindset. If they are, Rivian could become a serious player. If not, then this might just be a temporary slowdown for Ford.

This feels more like a long game than a quick win.
