General Motors (GM) is currently facing significant challenges in its transition to electric vehicles (EVs), which has led to frustration among loyal customers and raised concerns about the company's EV strategy. In 2023, GM delivered just 75,883 EVs in the U.S., which accounted for less than 3% of its total sales. This figure is significantly lower than expected, especially considering the company's goal to produce 400,000 EVs by mid-2024. However, due to various challenges, including battery module assembly issues and software glitches, GM has revised its 2024 production targets, potentially cutting its EV output in half. The discontinuation of the popular Chevy Bolt, which made up a large portion of GM's EV sales, has further compounded the problem.

These setbacks have led to dissatisfaction among customers who feel misled by GM's promises of a seamless transition to EVs. Issues with the Ultium battery platform, delays in EV production, and the ongoing problems with the Cruise autonomous vehicle division have only added to the company's woes.
