EV or Hybrid in 2026 – What Actually Makes Sense?

Over the last few years everyone kept saying EVs would replace everything very quickly. But if you look at the market in 2026, things are a bit different.
A lot of people are now comparing EV vs Hybrid, not EV vs gasoline anymore.
EVs can be great if you have easy charging at home or at work. In that case daily driving is actually very comfortable and cheap. But if charging is not convenient, the experience can quickly become frustrating.
This is where regular hybrids make a lot of sense for many drivers.
A normal hybrid charges its battery automatically while driving, using regenerative braking and the engine. You don't have to plug anything in or think about charging. You just drive the car normally and still get lower fuel consumption.

The problem with plug-in hybrids

Plug-in hybrids sound perfect on paper.
Short trips on electricity and a gasoline engine for long trips. But in real life the system only works well if people actually charge the car regularly.
And this is where things often fall apart.
A lot of drivers simply don't charge their plug-in hybrid very often. Not necessarily because they don't want to, but because:

They don't have a charger at home
They don't have time
They forget
The car ends up being used like a normal gasoline vehicle

When that happens the car is basically carrying a heavy battery that isn't being used properly. The gasoline engine ends up doing most of the work, and fuel consumption can actually become worse than a normal hybrid.

What many buyers are realizing

Because of this, a lot of people seem to be choosing between two simpler options:
Full EV – if charging is easy and available.
Hybrid – if you want better fuel economy without changing how you use your car.
Plug-in hybrids can work well for some people, but only if they are charged consistently.

Curious what others think.
Do people actually charge their plug-in hybrids regularly?
