The 2016 Ford Fusion Energi Plug-in Hybrid, designed primarily for efficient urban commuting, offers a combination of gasoline and electric power with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle I-4 engine paired to an electric motor. This setup delivers a combined 188 horsepower, with a peak electric-only speed of 85 mph. It features a continuously variable transmission (eCVT) and achieves an impressive EPA-estimated fuel economy of 95 MPGe in the city and 81 MPGe on the highway. Its all-electric range reaches approximately 20 miles on a fully charged battery, which is a 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery that charges in about 2.5 hours on a 240-volt outlet.

The Fusion Energi’s interior space prioritizes passenger comfort over cargo, offering only 8.2 cubic feet of trunk space due to battery placement. The vehicle’s curb weight is around 3,913 lbs, and its exterior dimensions include a length of 191.8 inches and width of 72.9 inches, with a wheelbase of 112.2 inches. For ground clearance, it sits relatively low at 4.1 inches, making it less ideal for rugged or off-road environments.

Insurance rates for hybrids like the Fusion Energi can vary based on location and driving history, but hybrid insurance is often somewhat more affordable due to the vehicle’s safety and reduced accident rates. Typical annual maintenance costs for a hybrid of this age can range, but Ford hybrids have a reputation for lower costs due to fewer oil changes and brake replacements. Additionally, the Fusion Energi includes low-rolling resistance 235/50R17 tires as standard, which helps in achieving its fuel economy.

The Fusion Energi initially had an MSRP starting around $33,900 for the SE trim, plus destination fees. However, used models today are priced significantly lower due to depreciation. The Fusion Energi provides amenities such as Ford’s MyFord® Mobile app, allowing for remote charging control, trip planning, and location-based charging alerts, making it a popular choice for drivers focused on fuel economy and connectivity features.
