Huawei and JAC Group have unveiled the Maextro S800, a flagship full-size luxury electric sedan designed to compete in the premium EV segment.

Design and Dimensions

The S800 exhibits a harmonious blend of classic luxury and futuristic design elements. It features a length of 5,480 mm, a width of 2,000 mm, a height of 1,536 mm, and a wheelbase measuring 3,370 mm. The vehicle will be available in two color schemes: purple-silver and black.

Powertrain and Performance

The Maextro S800 offers both dual and triple-motor configurations:

Dual Motor Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV): This setup includes a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine serving as a range extender, not mechanically connected to the wheels. It features a 63.25 kWh NMC lithium-ion battery supplied by CATL, delivering a combined output of 390 kW (approximately 522 horsepower). The electric-only CLTC range is estimated between 272 to 371 km, depending on the model.

Triple Motor Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): This configuration comprises a 160 kW front motor and two 237.5 kW rear motors, totaling 635 kW (approximately 851 horsepower). The top speed for this model is projected at 210 km/h.

Advanced Technology and Features

The S800 is engineered to meet Level 3 autonomous driving standards, incorporating Huawei's ADS advanced intelligent driving assistance system. This system includes features such as automatic parking, automatic summoning, and customizable parking preferences. It utilizes Huawei's proprietary 192-line LiDAR sensor and deep learning technology to enhance road environment recognition and decision-making.

Additionally, the vehicle boasts rear-wheel steering with an angle of up to 16 degrees, enhancing maneuverability. The interior is adorned with premium materials, including a starry ceiling, and is equipped with Huawei's Xinghe intelligent in-vehicle communication system, ensuring robust signal coverage and rapid network recovery.

Pricing and Availability

Pre-orders for the Maextro S800 commenced in late 2024, with prices ranging between 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 yuan (approximately €131,500 to €195,900). The vehicle is expected to be available to consumers by mid-2025.

If the Maextro S800 delivers on its promises, it may not just compete with today's luxury electric sedans—it could redefine what buyers expect from the segment.

One thing that doesn't get mentioned enough is long-term ownership. The specs look impressive, but premium buyers also care about software support, service quality, parts availability, and resale value years down the road. If Huawei can deliver in those areas as well, the Maextro S800 could become much more than just another high-tech luxury EV. It could genuinely change how people view Chinese premium brands.
