Scout Motors, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, is reviving the iconic Scout brand with two rugged electric vehicles: the Scout Traveler SUV and the Scout Terra pickup truck. These models blend classic design elements with modern electric vehicle (EV) technology, aiming to cater to both off-road enthusiasts and everyday drivers.

Vehicle Overview
Scout Traveler SUV:
- Design: Inspired by the original Scout, featuring a boxy silhouette and modern touches like a retractable "cabana" roof and swing-out rear wheel carrier.
- Performance: Offers up to 350 miles of range in the all-electric version, with an extended-range model providing over 500 miles using a gas-powered generator.
- Interior: Spacious cabin accommodating up to six passengers, equipped with modern amenities and ample cargo space.
Scout Terra Pickup:
- Design: Maintains the rugged aesthetics of the classic Scout trucks, with a focus on durability and functionality.
- Performance: Similar to the Traveler, it offers up to 350 miles of electric range, with extended-range options exceeding 500 miles.
- Utility: Features like a 240-volt onboard power outlet and multiple USB and 120V outlets make it suitable for worksites and outdoor adventures.

Powertrain Options
Both vehicles will be available in two configurations:
- All-Electric: Powered solely by electric motors, offering up to 350 miles of range.
- Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV): Combines electric motors with a gas-powered generator that charges the battery, extending the range to over 500 miles. This setup addresses range anxiety without directly powering the wheels with the gasoline engine.
Production & Availability
- Manufacturing Plant: A new $2 billion facility is under construction in Blythewood, South Carolina, with plans to produce up to 200,000 vehicles annually.
- Production Timeline: Vehicle production is slated to begin in late 2027, with the models expected to be available as 2028 models.
- Sales Model: Scout Motors intends to sell vehicles directly to consumers through an app-based platform and dedicated retail centers. However, this approach faces legal challenges in some states, including South Carolina, due to existing dealership laws.
Technology & Features
- Connectivity: Both models will offer in-vehicle satellite connectivity, ensuring internet access even in remote areas.
- User Interface: The Scout Community UX™ interface combines tactile controls with modern digital features for an intuitive user experience.
- Charging Compatibility: Equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, with adapters available for Combined Charging System (CCS) compatibility.
